Sea buckthorn extract contains the rarely occurring palmitoleic acid, which is also a component of skin fat and stimulates regenerative processes in the epidermis and promotes wound healing. Therefore, sea buckthorn extract can help activate skin regeneration and minimize scarring.

Other unsaturated fatty acids in the extract increase skin moisture. In addition, sea buckthorn oil has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. The extract is therefore particularly suitable for use in anti-ageing products, skincare products especially for dry and chapped skin, products against skin impurities and conditioning soaps.

Sea buckthorn can also be used in sunscreen and aftersun products. Sea buckthorn oil also strengthens hair, which is why it is also used in shampoos, conditioners and other hair products aimed at repairing damaged hair.
Sea buckthorn oil promotes wound healing and has an analgesic effect, which is why it is traditionally used in Russia mainly for skin damage caused by high-energy radiation (e.g., sunlight).
It is also used for burns and to treat necrotic wounds and ulcers.

Internal applications of sea buckthorn oil lower blood cholesterol levels and can thus prevent cardiovascular diseases. In folk medicine, the oil is used to relieve symptoms of chronic stomach ulcers and other stomach disorders.

In dietary supplements, sea buckthorn extract is suitable for regulating fat metabolism in cases of essential fatty acid deficiency due to its high unsaturated fatty acid content. The alpha-linolenic acid in the extract also helps maintain normal cholesterol concentrations in the blood.

Sea buckthorn is most commonly used in dilution (1-50%) and added to neutral products, for oral and wound care.
